Frequently Asked Questions

What's all this then?

Shinkansen.com offers a unique collection of items for sale that reflect a Japanese design aesthetic, and we report on fresh trends in Japanese design and pop culture.

  • Canada
  • China
  • European Union
  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • Mexico

When will my order arrive?

Shipments to most parts of the world take around a week to ten days, sometimes faster. For overseas orders, all goods are shipped via Japan Post EMS, an insured expedited service with tracking available. A tracking number is provided upon shipment, allowing the customer to track the delivery on the EMS website.

How much does shipping cost?

Overseas shipping charges are listed on each product's page, and they vary depending on the size and weight of the item and your location. After you have added items to your shopping cart you will be asked for your shipping destination, and shipping and handling charges will be added automatically to each item in your cart.

Domestic shipping charges within Japan are $5 unless otherwise noted.

What forms of payment do you handle? Which credit cards do you accept?

We currently handle all our payments through PayPal, however even if you don't have a PayPal account you can use one of the credit cards that PayPal accepts - American Express, Mastercard, Visa or Discover.

What is the price for this item in non-US currency?

Prices for all items are set and calculated in US dollars. Other currencies are available to display for comparative purposes only. These are based on recent, but not real-time, exchange rates. Actual charges (for non-US customers) are calculated based on the exchange rate at the time of purchase, so may be slightly higher or lower than the price displayed.

What's a "combini"?

It's the Japanese abbreviation for "convenience store." Convenience-store chains in Japan introduce hundreds of new products every month, and our "combini watch" column introduces some of the more interesting of these limited-edition items.

Do you have a privacy policy?

Yes. Here it is.

What is your return policy?

Shinkansen.com is committed to customer satisfaction and offers a full refund of the cost of the item plus original shipping provided that the customer contacts us at Customer Service within 72 hours of receipt of the item, and returns said item in the same condition it was delivered, in the same packaging, at their own cost to Japan within seven days of receipt.
